WILDWOOD began business as a button factory, specializing in "natural wooden buttons". Although our line has grown to offer products primarily for the gift market, we still take pride in manufacturing 'natural' closures for the garment trade. We use the word "natural" for these closures because they are cut from branches and processed to retain some of the natural, irregular features of the branch, without compromising their intended use.

BUTTONS: Wildwood Buttons are made from cross-cut branch sections, featuring the bark, irregular outer edge and annual growth rings. We take care to retain any interesting natural features, such as branch spurs and knots. The drilled holes are countersunk to prevent thread wear, and the bark edges are radiused to work smoothly through the button hole without catching bits of wool or fabric. Two species of wood are used for Wildwood buttons: Douglas Fir - thick bark, bright wood, fairly uniform in shape Yew - thin bark, varied in colour, quite varied in shape Both woods are extremely strong and serve as premium button woods.

TOGGLES: Toggles are cylinder shaped closures usually found on heavier outer wear, but also used as grips for garment pull cords, as well as decorative trims with many applications. Wildwood toggles are cut from branch sections of: Douglas Fir - rough bark, blond wood colour Alder - smooth bark, whitish wood colour The toggle ends are cut either flush (barrel style) or on an angle (bevel style), and the holes are counter-sunk to minimize thread wear. Sizes range from 25mm to 6Omm in length, and particulars such as hole spacing and thickness are often customized to buyers' requirements.
